Despite being one of the larger Caribbean countries and a well-known tourist destination, the north coast of the Dominican Republic is one of the best-kept secrets when it comes to overseas property. In addition to a superb climate, the Dominican Republic boasts a wide variety of sports and other activities including sailing, golf, tennis, scuba diving and horse riding. There are no restrictions on foreign ownership, the cost of living is low and with direct flights from the UK , getting there is no problem.

As a relatively new destination to buy a home, the Dominican Republic today offers very good value for money compared to other Caribbean locations (or indeed many European ones!), and the north coast particularly is seen as having excellent potential for investors. Apartments (or condominiums as they are locally known) can cost as little as £45,000 for a furnished, 2 bedroom property on the beach, whilst a 3 bedroom, detached house in a gated community starts at around £90,000. If you wish to build your own Caribbean hideaway, the Dominican Republic has prime beachfront plots, inexpensive build costs and very little beaurocratic red tape.
